The day has come where it’s no longer feasible to keep heads in sand when it comes to using social media to build your business.
What business doesn’t have a website to check out? Really, your company doesn’t have a Facebook page? Your career profile isn’t on LinkedIn? Who’s blogging and tweeting about your services… About you?

Luddites be warned. If traditional word of mouth and adverts in the local paper were the be all and end all of your marketing plan, think again. While the thought of plunging in to the waves of social networking can be daunting – the cost of turning your back on social media could leave your business washed up. Read the following social media marketing advantages.

Allow them to give you the gentle but firm shove needed towards new worlds of marketing opportunities.

Advantages of Social Media:

• It’s cheap – 75% of Americans have access to the internet. Can this marketing and research tool be ignored? What other medium allows no-to-low website start-up costs that provide businesses the potential to reach a global audience?

• Space – To extol the benefits of your services to customers. High resolution and color images can showcase products, making your brand visible – and attractive.

• It’s connected – Use your site to speak to other businesses and increase ‘online traffic’ back to your business.

• It’s instant – Quickly respond to customer demands and feedback.

• It’s not as hard as you think – Relatively speaking. Everyone seems to be doing it, so can it really be that complicated?

Maybe. In the interests of providing a balanced viewpoint, there are…

Disadvantages of using Social Media:

• It’s time consuming. Keeping your online presence and content up-to-date requires time and resources. However, not keeping up also has its cost.

• Unhappy customers can also post feedback instantly – and to a much wider audience.

But this is your business. Be bold. Get in front of the technological wave… Happy networking!

Startup businesses are the most loved type of business by investors till the extent that some investors even prefer them over established businesses. They reason is of course obvious; startup projects requires least bootstrapping, higher risk and higher potential of return with the most important being the fact that startup business are designed for quick growth. But what are the characteristics or what qualities should a startup project have in order to be successful?

The commonly 5 signs associated with the success of a startup are like that you must already know about your customers and sure enough for their interest, a perspective for expansion, having a minimal initial budget with no extravaganza expanses, transparency of work in the organization and the last one being communication and skills related to it.
Though these are no doubt the most important things but one more key which determines your success especially when your business has just ignited is your team. It is the team that makes sure that your business remains in the long run. It’s the secret backbone of your company which makes sure that your project doesn’t lean. But do you know why people don’t give so much importance to team in a startup? The reason behind is that they normally think that if you hire the best guns available, pay them right and then wait and watch your company grow. They feel that all you require is a team of caliber and rest has to come out naturally. To an extent this is correct but had this been the case we would have been spending our lives on holidays on some amazing island. So what is the role of a team and what makes a great team in a startup that can ensure the success of your business? In the next few paragraphs we will try to look over it.

• The core team: know the people you require:
Your team should be such that it contains all the major roles that are essential. Many people especially youngsters think of a startup team as a bunch of friends comprising of a developer, designer and one as a manager who had the idea. These people are the ones handling the rest of the roles too like the manager might even doing the marketing or writing the content. Your project might startup but in the long run it will have some serious troubles.
In some cases this might not be and may be the team is carefully selected but still they miss out some important roles for e.g. what if your company all of a sudden faces some serious legal issue that can put your whole business in jeopardy and of course a lot of finances. But initially ask any startup team that are they consulting any lawyer who can make sure that every step of yours is within the framework and their answer will be that the requirement of a lawyer didn’t even crossed their mind.
So make a list of all the roles your team requires and when you have them ready and it’s time to hire people you have to keep in mind that
• Mature people is what you need:
The reason why startups with the best ideas and investment fail is no doubt because of the team. If your hiring is on the basis of people that I know than it’s your business that going to suffer. No doubt hiring someone you have a connection with brings a sense of security but business requires a sense of objectivity and accountability while friends and family expect and even they should be treated in a different way.
In other cases too as startups requires a strong base with sometime bringing on heavy and quick work which comes as a real test for the team. So make sure to hire someone who is not just competitive but is even mature enough to handle the pressure.

• Leadership and team-building:
Making a list of roles you need and then getting the right people is nothing but a bunch of people. That’s where the role of team is understood of how to turn a group with each having different capabilities into a team motivated towards success. This is where leadership skills come in where someone has to take this bunch to a destiny. If your team-building is not done carefully there might be a case where your business might suffer from one of them or in some cases the team itself is nothing but individuals who are not willing to cooperating or are unhappy. In either case this is not a good sign. This is where transparency in organization and communication skills comes into play.

Thus in order to summarize the importance and role of your team in your startup business remember the fact that if you have a great team, it will turn into your greatest competitive advantage where even products or projects change, your team will figure out a way to ace in any situation.

Internet marketing, also known as online marketing, web marketing or e-marketing is when you market products, a company, or yourself online through the internet. Examples of this include a company having a website, a writer with a blog or other means of marketing.

One of the biggest advantages of the internet is how cheap it is. You can market yourself or your product for virtually nothing online, with a lot of websites and services either being free or having very low charges. Even if you do pay a small fee to have a website, this website makes it possible for you to attract consumers from all over the world, compared to any advertising you would do on TV or through hoardings.

There are many things you can do to improve your web presence, and all of these are either very low cost, or free. While many companies have departments that are responsible for internet marketing, because of the simplicity it is now possible for even those people who don’t have a lot of resources to market their work all over the world.

To start with, a website can serve as your online office. It can provide all the information about your product to the person reading it, as well as talk about your company, the history, how you make the product, prices and even have a customer support page where people can directly contact you if they have problems.

After you have a website, you need to start making this a more visited page. You can do this by creating additional elements and making it more interactive. One of these is a newsletter. You can send out a monthly newsletter that gives all the news from last month to all the subscribers who have signed onto your website. This way, people can forward this to their friends and bring more business to you.

Another thing you need to have is RSS. This allows people who frequently visit your website to receive updates from the entire website on their RSS reader without having to worry about spam filters. Also, you can have multiple RSS feeds (news, product updates, blog) and this way people can sign up for the one they are more interested in.

Which bring s us to the blog. If possible, you should have a blog where you update and write interesting things for your customers every day or every few days. It is especially a great way for your employees to interact with the customers. A lot of companies have blogs, like Google, where latest updates, things being developed are frequently posted.

Finally, make profiles for your company on social media sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter and start building a following on these. Like a website, this improves your web presence and markets you across the globe to your audience. You can make it as interactive as you want, and respond to questions people have and gain advantage from the free publicity they will provide you if they walk away happy customers.

Google is celebrating the 90th birthday of the stop motion animation pioneer Arthur “Art” Clokey in its Google doodle.

Detroit-born Clokey, who died in 2010, was best known for Gumby, a clay figure and star of the Gumby Show, which ran for 35 years from November 1955. Interest in the characters was given a boost in the 1980s when Eddie Murphy parodied Gumby in a Saturday Night Live skit.

One of Clokey’s first clay animation productions was Gumbasia (1955), a short, surreal homage to Walt Disney’s Fantasia that caught the eye of Samuel G Engel, then president of the Motion Pictures Producers Association. Engel was sufficiently impressed to finance the pilot film for what became the Gumby Show.

Film appearances, comic strips, merchandise and reruns in the 1990s on Nickelodeon and the Cartoon Network stand as testimony to Gumby’s enduring popularity.

The doodle features some of Clokey’s characters popping out from balls of clay.

Any website on World Wide Web is normally a combination of different type of content. A website normally consists of text, images, flash animation and scripts. We all know the importance of content and text when it comes to white hat and efficient SEO practice. But it does not mean that we should totally neglect the importance of proper SEO when it comes to images on our website.
In this article I will be talking about some of the key points to keep in mind in order to optimize the images of our website for Google, and to get maximum targeted traffic from Google`s Image Search.
It has been seen as a normal practice to reduce the number of images on a webpage, which makes website owners believe that by having maximum content on their website they would have better chance of ranking high for their keywords. This may be right to some extent, but having very less amount of images on your website can make your website look like a dull and old fashioned website. If you really want to be successful in This makes it necessary for you to make use of the image optimization and optimize the images on your webpage to make sure that your page is search engine friendly and yet interactive and attractive to visitors.
While optimizing your website`s images for search engine, keep in mind the following key points.

Make use of Alt Tag. Alt tag is a html code that can be inserted in any image`s code, the basic purpose for this code is to describe the image, and Google`s crawler also see it as an indicator of what that image and the page is all about. Hence adding your keyword there can increase your SEO score much higher.

Image Size: Don’t use bigger images that take ages to load. As, recently Google has started ranking those websites up on SERP that load faster than others. Hence using smaller but attractive images will save you bandwidth as well as loading time of your website which will eventually result in higher SEO gains.

Title Tag: Just like Alt tag, there is another tag that you can use to describe your image, i.e. title tag. You can make use of this tag too, to add your keyword and hence making your images as well as your page optimized for that particular keyword.

Links: You can also link your inner page or the same page from that image; this will strengthen the internal linking structure of your website.

Caption: You can also use Caption, to describe what the image is all about, or anything that you want to write there, just don’t forget to add you keyword in the description.

By having these key points in mind, I am sure you will be able to optimize your web pages in a more search engine friendly way, and attract more and more visitors from Search engines.

Google who is Now officially a teenager, Celebrating it’s 13th Birthday in it’s Google Doodle Style showing the five letters of the company logo sitting around a cake.

The search engine giant barely out of short trousers, the birthday celebrations come at a time when it is locked in an increasingly intense rivalry with an even younger pretender, Facebook.

Are you a human link builder? If so, ask yourself this: “if a robot link builder existed, what would I still be able to do that it could not?”

Analyze a complex backlink profile and distinguish quality links from spammy ones? Check. Write a funny personal email that gets someone’s attention in the right way? Check. Decide when a phone call might be the best outreach method? Check.

And what could the robot do faster and better than you?

Find every link to a site? Check. Automatically search through SERPs and connect each result to external data? Check. Automatically search for contact information on three different pages and score how closely it matched a person’s name? Check. Automatically pre-populate data fields in a CRM? Check.

If you’ve ever heard the phrase “build on your strengths,” the lesson for link building is this: that we need to automate as much of the routine, “robot work” as possible, and spend more time doing what we’re best at: being sentient human link builders.

In this post, we’ll look at tools that can help link builders shift their workload to computers as much as humanly possible.

Backlink Data

Let’s start with the most basic automation. You need tools to research sites’ backlink profiles. These tools crawl the web and build a database of raw data about backlinks.

Each tool provides, at minimum, the ability to lookup a list of all the pages linking to a URL or domain, and some include detailed information about each link’s anchor text, type (text or image), follow status, authority for the linking page, and in some cases the ability to group, sort, search, and filter the results.

Majestic SEO: A well-regarded index of link data with information about anchor text, authority, Class C IPs, and relevance, not to mention good sorting and filtering. My only complaint is that their pricing and user-interface is a bit confusing.

Open Site Explorer: A very user-friendly tool with anchor text data, follow status, and authority. The only downside is the index may miss some links in the “deep web.”

Yahoo Site Explorer: Known for being relative fast to find new links (other indexes are updated monthly), but very limited because it can only return 1,000 links per page or domain and offers no “extra” data such as follow status or filtering capabilities. But it’s free! Yahoo also offers an API (Yahoo BOSS), which according to many, is more current than the Site Explorer website.

Google: Yes, their “link:” operator leaves much to be desired, but just because it’s incomplete doesn’t mean it’s useless.

Blekko: This new search engine offers tons of free backlink data available from a very deep index.

Site-Level Backlink Analysis

Many tools offer backlink reports at the site or URL level, but are limited to only the data points they have available. So then what do you do if you want to filter a site’s backlinks down to only followed inbound links, with toolbar PageRank of at least 5, and no more than 50 outbound links?

Enter site-level backlink analysis tools. These tools gather traditional backlink data with a traditional set of backlink data, often pulled from one or multiple backlink data providers.

Link Diagnosis: Powered by Yahoo BOSS, Link Diagnosis uses a Firefox extension to pull up to 1,000 links per page and lookup metrics such as the toolbar PageRank of each URL, whether the link actually was found on the page, follow status, anchor text of each link, and aggregate level reporting.

BacklinkWatch!: Also powered by Yahoo, BacklinkWatch! pulls the first 1,000 links for a page (the most Yahoo will give up), and appends the number of outbound links on the source page along with any flags they find (nofollow, image links, etc.).

Many enterprise SEO packages also offer data-rich site level backlink analysis, including BrightEdge, SecondStep, RankAbove’s Drive, seoClarity, SEO Diver, SISTRIX Toolbox, and gShift Labs, and link building specific tools such as Advanced Link Manager, Linkdex and Cemper’s LinkResearchTools offer powerful backlink analysis features.

SERP-Level Backlink Analysis

It seems like every link builder has a preferred set of data when it comes to competitive analysis. So don’t expect any single tool to pull every conceivable piece of data and put them all into same columns you’ve always used.

You still may find yourself exporting data to Excel and merging with other data sources. But any time saved from manually copying and pasting data into spreadsheets (or hiring and managing people to do so) can be spent on more human, value-added activities.

SEOBook, SEOQuake, and SEOMoz, offer helpful browser extensions that overlay a variety of backlink data directly on search results, so you can assess the backlinks behind each listing in the SERP, right when you’re looking at it.

Larger suites like Advanced Link Manager, LinkResearchTools, Adgooroo Link Insight, Wordtracker Link Builder, LinkDex, Raven, and SEOMoz, also offer detailed backlink data at the SERP level. SEOMoz announced an upgrade for their excellent Keyword Difficulty Tool to provide a more integrated SERP analysis.

Anyone without research tools for SERP analysis is at a competitive disadvantage.

Link Prospecting Tools

There are many ways to find link opportunities, and the tools listed below can only really scratch the surface when it comes to the universe of link opportunities that some creativity and insight can find.

Query generators are the original link automation tools. These tools take a keyword and automatically create dozens or hundreds of canned searches to find common link opportunity types (e.g. resource pages, guest posts, and directories). Here are a few of the most popular: SoloSEO, Ontolo’s Link Query Generator, SEOBook’s Link Suggest, BuzzStream’s Link Building Query Generator (disclaimer: I co-founded BuzzStream), and Webconf’s Backlink Builder. I would strongly caution anyone using a list of other people’s queries to weed out queries that don’t make sense for them — don’t just head down a link building path because a tool suggested you seek a link on every “inurl:links.html” page in your industry.

Link prospecting tools build upon the query generator idea, but automate the task of visiting each page in and compiling addition metrics (and in some cases, contact info). This can save link builders time by enabling them to prioritize prospects with the highest value. But you can’t just take everything the tools give you. Plan to review each prospect to assess its appropriateness to your link building campaign. Here are a few of the most popular: Ontolo, Adgooroo’s Link Insight, and Advanced Link Manager.

Cocitation or “hub finder” tools help you find sites that link to multiple competitors. Some look across all links to your competitors, and some analyze the top ranking sites for a given keyword. The best known offerings in this area are SEOBook’s Hub Finder, Adgooroo’s Link Insight, Raven’s SiteFinder, LinkResearchTools, Linkdex, WordTracker Link Builder, SEODiver, and Shoemoney Tools.

Proprietary technique research tools use a combination of their own search queries and analysis rules to generate a list of screened, quality link prospect opportunities. Link Insight is known for integrating many of Eric Ward’s (a.k.a., “Link Moses”) research methods, though I wouldn’t call it an Eric-SaaS just yet. Ontolo offers a number of proprietary searches, but also leaves a fair bit of detail and control in users’ hands.

Checklist-driven link building tools give users bite-sized link building tasks, such as “Today you should request a link on DMOZ!” (except their suggestions tend to be more clever than that): LotusJump, Hubspot, DIYSEO, and SEOScheduler.

Next time, I’ll cover tools that address contact research, link management (CRM), link outreach management, and link monitoring.

A note about some tools I won’t cover: tools that scrape SERPs for sites and automatically extract email addresses and send blast mass emails, tools that automate directory submission, “article marketing,” and blog commenting, services that automate blindly placing link-laden content on an unknown network of sites, or tools to automate reciprocal link exchanges. These tools exist and some people use them, but I have yet to find them to be beneficial.

The best strategy for using link building automation tools is to first develop a good process for tracking your link prospecting data and managing your outreach via a structured workflow. Once you have data and process in place, you can start automating some of your routine tasks.

The point of using great tools, whether it’s an array of three 24″ monitors on your desk, an Aeron chair, or fancy link building tools, is to eliminate energy wasted on low value activities, work in new ways, and free you up to focus on what you, the human link builder, is uniquely suited to do.

There are a number of ways to get visitors to your website but what can you do to keep them there? Below we are going to discuss 10 things you can implement to make your visitors stick around.

The number of visitors who land on a site and quickly move on is called the bounce rate. Most websites that have a high bounce rate are not currently using these techniques or have no clue as to what their market really wants and needs.

Here are 10 proven tips to keep visitors on your site longer.

1. Teach your visitors something. Visitors don’t want loads of hype, they want to learn and increase their knowledge of your product or industry so they can make an informed decision.

Provide informational content about your product or services. Teach your visitors and this will help them create a good opinion about your site.

2. Keep the navigation simple. Navigation links should be large and clearly labeled. Have you ever been to a cultural restaurant but couldn’t tell the men’s restroom from the women’s? While you may think themed titles are cute, your visitors may become confused and end up leaving your website. If in doubt, always go with the more common title.

3. Keep your content updated. Try to update times, dates, and news articles as much as possible. You don’t want your website to sound like it was published in the stone age do you? If you’re running an information based site than it is important to consistently add fresh and unique content.

4. Add a blog. Blogs can be added to your site with a few clicks if your web host includes the option within your hosting package. If not, you can always start a free blog at Blogger.com or WordPress.com and link it back to your website.

Blogs are an easy way to add new content. It’s a great way to add user-generated content and it’s a amazing way to build a dedicated group of visitors who visit your blog everyday. Since blogs create interaction with your visitors it also builds trust and creates the feel that there is actually someone on the other side of the website.

Blogs that offer quality content always carry a loyal group of followers and often create a hefty income.

5. List and describe product benefits. Most site owners describe the product’s features, example: Rubber coated speaker, 2-ohm total impedance , etc., Your visitors don’t purchase features, they purchase the benefits that the product or service will provide for them. Is your product a time saver? Is it easier to use than most competing products? Make sure you describe how the product will make the visitors life more productive, more fun, easier, or better.

6. Provide product pictures and related images. People like to visualize things. Ever wonder where day dreaming came from? Websites with relevant images help stimulate the visitors emotions and emotions drive sales. Remember a picture is worth 1,000 words.

7. Make sure your visitor knows their purchase is secure. More than one-half of all buyers won’t buy online because they’re afraid of getting scammed.

Proudly display signs of trust like BBB Online and Verisign logos. Make sure your visitors know your site is secure or most will not feel comfortable making the purchase.

8. Make sure your informational content is accurate. Your visitors will stick around to read your message especially when you back it up with references and third party awards.

9. Ask for site feedback. Provide your visitor with a way of leaving feedback for you and other readers.

Testimonials are a powerful tool because they give your product credibility from a third party. Testimonials can be a trust builder, especially if you provide a reference (phone number, email address, ect. ) for them to contact the user that gave the testimonial. Most of the time your visitors will not contact the person that gave the testimonial but it helps build trust and provides a more authentic feel.

10. Test and Tweak. Not every site will be a home run the first time it steps to the plate. Use tools like Google Analytics to determine what makes your visitors stick around and what makes them “bounce”. You then proceed to build on the good and drop the bad.

Tweaking your website will improve the performance of your sales funnel and link popularity over time. The difference between a site that generates 100% ROI (return-on-investment) and 500% ROI is usually a matter of split testing and tweaking.

Successful sites keep their visitors interested with easy-to-find information that fulfills the visitors wants and needs. That is what separates the beauty from the beast.
